Elon Musk Reportedly Recruiting Team for Developing OpenAI ChatGPT Rival

Elon Musk has reportedly been reaching out to artificial intelligence (AI) researchers in recent weeks to form a new research lab that will develop an alternative to OpenAI's ChatGPT, according to a report by The Information. Musk has been recruiting Igor Babuschkin, a former researcher at Alphabet's DeepMind AI unit, to join the effort.

OpenAI's ChatGPT, a text-based chatbot that can draft prose, poetry, or even computer code on command, has gained widespread attention in Silicon Valley. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI as a nonprofit startup in 2015, had left its board in 2018, but called ChatGPT "scary good."

While Musk and Babuschkin have discussed assembling a team to pursue AI research, there are no concrete plans to develop specific products as of yet. In an interview with The Information, Babuschkin said he has not officially signed onto the Musk initiative.

The move suggests that Musk is continuing to invest in AI research and development, despite leaving OpenAI's board. Musk has previously warned about the potential dangers of AI, calling it "more dangerous than nuclear weapons."

It remains to be seen what kind of alternative to ChatGPT Musk's team will develop, but it could potentially lead to a new breakthrough in natural language processing and other AI applications.
