Over 21 Unverified Quran Apps and Websited are blocked by PTA

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken action against unverified Quran applications and websites by reportedly blocking around 21 of them, including 13 unverified Quran websites and 8 Quran mobile apps. These apps and websites were reported or researched to contain unauthentic content, which prompted PTA to take action.

Under section 37 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, PTA is responsible for identifying any sacrilegious content on the internet. In order to collect complaints, PTA has given a dedicated E-Portal to 43 organizations, who can report the presence of any sacrilegious content. The general public can also report such content through the PM portal or PTA’s Complaint Management system.

Moreover, PTA has contacted the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony (MoRA&IH) and made them aware of the situation. In response, MoRA&IH has set up a Web Evaluation Cell to actively search for objectionable or sacrilegious content.

It is important to ensure that any content related to religion, especially the Quran, is authentic and verified. PTA’s actions against unverified Quran applications and websites show their commitment to keeping the online space safe and free from sacrilegious content.
