Microsoft accidentally allows unsupported PCs to upgrade to Windows 11

Last week, Microsoft accidentally prompted users to upgrade to Windows 11 even if their PCs did not meet the minimum requirements for the operating system. The error was first noted by a Twitter user, PhantomOcean3, who received a notification to install Windows 11 despite having only 2GB of RAM on his Windows 10 PC. Microsoft quickly addressed the issue and said that the upgrade could not proceed due to system requirements.

In a support note, Microsoft stated that the error affected some hardware-ineligible Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices, which were offered an inaccurate upgrade to Windows 11. Windows 11 officially requires Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPUs and up, and this is not the first time that Microsoft has faced this error. Last year, unsupported PCs were also offered a Windows 11 upgrade, emphasizing the strict minimum hardware requirements for the operating system.

The mistake occurred just two weeks before Microsoft's planned release of additional improvements to Windows 11, referred to as 'Moment 2'.
