Google to Launch Its First Foldable Phone - The Pixel Fold - at Google I/O 2023

Google has announced that it will be unveiling its first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, at the upcoming Google I/O event on May 10, 2023. While specifications have not been officially released by Google, leaked marketing materials and a hands-on video provide some details.

The Pixel Fold appears to have a full-size outer display, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold devices, and a triple camera setup that includes a periscope lens. The phone is said to have a 5.8-inch screen that folds out into a 7.6-inch tablet, and features a Google Tensor G2 processor paired with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM. It weighs 10 ounces and has the "most durable hinge on a foldable," according to reports.

The outer display will measure 7.6 inches with a resolution of 2208×1840 pixels, and both panels will be capable of achieving a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz. The rear camera setup will include a 48 MP main shooter with an f/1.7 aperture, a 10.8 MP telephoto with five times optical zoom, and a 10.8 MP ultra-wide with an f/2.2 aperture.

While the price of the Pixel Fold has not been officially announced, it is expected to be around $1,700, similar to Samsung's latest foldable, the Z Fold 4, which launched with a price of $1,799.

The Pixel Fold was expected to be launched last year but did not make the cut for the 2022 I/O event. Since then, Google has focused on teaching Android developers how to make their apps compatible with larger screens and foldable devices.

In addition to the Pixel Fold, Google has also announced that it will be launching a new pixel device in India, most likely the Pixel 7a. The company shared a teaser of the device on Flipkart.
